The Tennessee State University women’s basketball program has announced its 2022-2023 season schedule. The 29-game slate features 18 Ohio Valley Conference matchups and features non-conference matchups with Kansas City, Butler, Omaha, Stetson, Baylor, and others. The Tigers will play 15 home games at the Gentry Center beginning with the home opener on November 7 against Fisk. TSU will be under the leadership of third-year head coach Ty Evans.
“We have put together an extremely challenging schedule, and I’m super excited that our players get the opportunity to compete against some of the best players from some of the best conferences in the country,” stated Evans. “Nonconference road games vs opponents such as Baylor and Butler will not only prepare us for the rigors of the Ohio Valley Conference, but it will also provide us with the experience necessary to not only “compete”, but to put us in a position to WIN in March, as we continue to #PressPlay towards our goal of pursuing championships.”
After opening the season at home against Fisk on Nov. 7, TSU will travel to KC to take on Kansas City on November 11. The Roos finished last season with a 23-9 record and a trip to the WNIT.
The Tigers will be back in Nashville on Nov. 14 to host crosstown DII opponent Trevecca Nazarene, before heading out on the road for two games. TSU heads to Chattanooga two days later to play the Mocs, followed by a trip to Indianapolis, to take on Butler on Nov. 21.
TSU returns to Roar City for matchups with Omaha on Nov. 27 and Lipscomb on December 3 before a quick road trip to Southern Illinois on Dec. 7 followed by another home contest against Stetson on Dec. 11.
The Lady Tigers hit the road for its toughest competition of the season when they travel to Waco, Texas, on Dec. 15, to take on Baylor. The Bears are coming off a 28-7 campaign that saw them win the Big 12 Regular Season Title, followed by a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
A quick midweek contest prior to Christmas pits TSU hosting Wilberforce on Dec. 21.
OVC play gets started on Dec. 29 as TSU welcomes Morehead State into the Gentry Center for a 5:30 p.m. conference opener. Each school will play an 18-game double round-robin schedule which will begin against the Eagles and conclude on Saturday, February 25.
This year is the 75th year of competition in the OVC and marks the first season in the league for Lindenwood, Little Rock, and Southern Indiana who became official members on July 1. They join Eastern Illinois, Morehead State, Southeast Missouri, SIUE, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, and UT Martin to make up the 10-team league.
The Tigers close out 2022 as they play host to Little Rock on New Year’s Eve in the Gentry Center.
January sees the Lady Tigers on the road for five of eight games with home appearances against UT Martin (Jan. 12), Eastern Illinois (Jan. 19), and Lindenwood (Jan. 28).
The final month of the season will challenge the Tigers as they face tough road competition at Southern Indiana (Feb. 2), Eastern Illinois (Feb. 4), and UT Martin (Feb. 23).
TSU will close out the regular season schedule on February 25 against Southern Indiana.
The 2023 OVC Women’s Basketball Tournament is slated for March 1-4 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. It marks the sixth year in a row the event will be held at the venue.
